The enchanting Argos Hotel, with its 53 rooms, lies in the heart of cultural Cappadocia in central Turkey. Diligently restored from an authentic, ancient monastery together with its long passageways and cave dwellings, the Argos modestly sits atop rustic and tranquil Turkish foothills, transporting you back to the magic of Cappadocia’s past and making you feel at one with nature.
Nestled within the spiritual, old Uçhisar village, the Argos can be found toward the end of the quiet Kale Sk trail. Only 50 minutes’ drive from Nevşehir Cappadocia airport or, alternatively, an hour and a half from Kayseri, Uçhisar is easily accessible. Discover the Cappadocia plateau’s millennia-old rich heritage and enter a dream by visiting the Uçhisar Castle at the summit, which gives you breath-taking, mystical views over the region. You’ll be enthralled by nature at its purest as you gaze out on the mighty Mount Erciyes and the beautiful Pigeon Valley, scattered with ‘fairy chimneys’.
The Argos has an interesting and diverse assortment of rooms, from suites to ‘splendid suites’, which boast their own cave pools for first-class private relaxation. Authentic, age-old stone surrounds cozy furniture, which is complimented by quaint fireplaces and candles, offering total warmth and comfort. Spread throughout the monastery and various mansions and tunnels, rooms vary in scale, all offering the ideal ambience to find your inner Zen.
Why we like it
Take advantage of the Argos’ unique history by journeying through the monastery’s subway web of 5.5km interconnected tunnels, where you’ll enter ancient cellars that are home to thousands of year old wines. Here you’ll be able to try some of the finest Anatolian wines with an exquisite wine-tasting experience – we loved the Kocabağ. Up, up and up, you simply cannot leave without having tried Cappadocia’s hot-air balloon ride, where you’ll embrace this surreal landscape from the sky following a mass sunrise departure.
