Our Guide to Mozambique

At a glance

Part of its allure is that Mozambique is a little off the beaten track with a laid back African charm that will make you fall in love with this rustic yet luxurious and blissful country. Still relatively untouched by tourism, the Portuguese influence of Mozambique and its surrounding islands is conveyed through the colonial architecture, and its innovative conservation efforts mean that it makes for an ideal unspoilt beach destination or perfect for a unique honeymoon. With beaches reaching up to ten kilometres long and five kilometres wide, Mozambique has powdery white sand in spades.

What to see

Although the mainland is a luxury destination in its own right, it is the islands of Mozambique that we are drawn to. You have two choices, the Quirimbus archipelago, consisting of thirty two magical islands, or the Bazaruto archipelago which has just five little pieces of heaven.

Both areas are equally quixotic and are the epitome of barefoot luxury letting you enjoy the secluded and intimate setting in a relaxed atmosphere. Hole up on a desert island and dream away life’s pressures whilst still having the option to explore the aquatic world, take off on a dhow safari camping on uninhabited islands or simply sway in a hammock in between two perfectly formed palm trees.

Why we love it

It is quite rare to find somewhere that is entirely unspoilt, complete with palm fringed beaches, world renowned diving and traditional culture. Somewhere you can go seriously off the radar Robinson Crusoe style, exploring uninhabited lands.

Like the country in which they live, the Mozambican people have an attitude to life that is fresh and inspiring and is reflected in the atmosphere created as you step onto the soft sands of this enchanting and exquisite African gem.
