With a famously health-driven way of life, it may come as a surprise to hear that Santa Monica has a bit of a sweet tooth. Over the last few years there has been a rise in boutique bakeries popping up over the city, so there are plenty of places to get stuck into something suitably saccharine. During your stay, there is one particularly good way to experience the best of these deliciously sweet spots – and true to California style, it has an active element to counteract the indulgence. We’re going to show you the crème de la crème of bakeries… by bicycle.
The Santa Monica Bike Center offers a variety of different tours that will show you a different side of the city (the Urban Farming and Street Art Tour are both great), but we’ll stick to our favorite for now. Hopping on your bike at 2nd Street, you’ll be taken on an 11 mile Sweet Spot Tour that shows you the highlights of Santa Monica, with regular stop offs to refuel with some seriously moreish treats; almond crunch truffles, fudge pops and salted caramel ice cream anyone? The leisurely route will also take you through the chicest storeping districts and landmark neighborhoods, so by the end of it you’ll feel full of knowledge, as well as sweets. Is this possibly the best way of seeing a city? We think so. So, all that’s left is donning your helmet and limbering up for a real treat of an afternoon.
