Nestled deep in the Provincal Lago del Desierto reserve, the secluded Aguas Arriba lodge blends in seamlessly with the surrounding Patagonian wilderness.  Experience a sense of true tranquillity in one of the six rooms this rustic cabin hideaway has to offer. The region offers unrivalled trekking and hiking expeditions – although with the stunning panoramic views of Mount Fitzroy and the Vespignani Glacier – it may be hard leaving the warmth of your mountain retreat at all.

Location

Located at the Estancia Rio de La Vueltas, all that fringes the exclusive lodge are acres of forest and the lake shoreline below.  The nearest airport is El Calafate with regular flights from Buenos Aires which is a three and a half hour drive from the lodge. Once you arrive you will be met by a boat which will whisk you to the lodge in 15 minutes – or feeling active? Go back to basics, leave your luggage on the boat and take the rewarding three hour hike through the forest directly to Aguas Arriba.

Your Room

The lodge is completely constructed from natural wood and stone much of it recycled from a burn forest in Northern Patagonia, designed with the natural environment in mind. Each of the six spacious en-suite rooms are positioned to enhance the views of Mount Fitzroy, the stunning Vespignani Glacier or the forest.  Organic simplicity and comfort is key here – let the spectacular Patagonian landscape do the talking.

Why We Like It

The sublime seclusion here needs to be seen to be believed; we loved the feeling of being at one with nature, and the locally sourced home cooked meals are the icing on the cake. Spend your days getting to know the breath-taking landscape; boating, tailoring your own hikes and treks with the local guide or trying your hand at fly-fishing – it’s your adventure.  The lodge’s motto is to leave your hiking shoes, the mud and mountain in the hall as once you’re inside you will feel instant relaxation.  After a long day of outdoor activities kick back with a drink in the living room in front of the stone fireplace, admire the view and let the warm and hearty atmosphere envelope you – bliss.
