A beautiful oasis of calm just minutes outside the busy and bustling streets of Siem Reap, Phum Baitang is an elegant hideaway set within 8 acres of lush gardens and rice paddies. 45 wooden stilted houses inspired by traditional Cambodian design are there to call home, with a large central pool making for a beautiful place to unwind after a day of sight-seeing. During the day, enjoy refreshing homemade juices at the Pool Bar whilst by evening, indulge in a spot of fine dining in one of the two restaurants, one locally-inspired and the other serving delicious international cuisine. All meals are created using fresh herbs and vegetables from the resort’s own garden and rice from the surrounding paddy fields to ensure a perfect insight into traditional Cambodian cuisine.
Phum Baitang’s location strikes the perfect balance; a peaceful hideaway outside the city of Siem Reap and surrounded by acres of lush gardens and paddy fields. However, despite its remote location, the hotel is only a short 10-minute tuk-tuk ride from the town center and a 20-minute drive from the magnificent Angkor Wat. Siem Reap International Airport is also just 15 minutes away, meaning you can settle into your new home from home in almost no time at all.
The hotel has 45 private stilted villas that have all been beautifully designed to replicate traditional Cambodian housing, both inside and out. All of the villas come with a private terrace and 20 also have the luxury of their own private plunge pool. The villas are all spacious and airy, with elegant neutral interiors that fuse traditional Cambodian interiors with modern touches. Our favorite feature has to be the gorgeous free-standing bathtubs in every bathroom.
Why we like it
Don’t miss a trip to the luxurious and tranquil Spa Temple where the resort’s skilled therapists use age-old techniques and ingredients inspired by ancient Cambodian traditions to create a natural and relaxing experience. We love the Moringa dry body scrub, massage and facial treatment which will leave your skin feeling healthy and rejuvenated. For a unique opportunity to learn how to cook authentic Cambodian cuisine, take a trip to the local market with the hotel’s chef and pick out ingredients and spices before learning the secrets of perfecting three traditional Khmer meals, with recipe cards thrown in to keep you cooking back home.
