Ecuador & the Galapagos

Pikaia Lodge, Galapagos Islands

On an island born from fire and volcanoes, the Pikaia lodge sits in 31 hectares of land and private wild giant tortoise reserve. The 12 rooms and two suites across the site ensure your luxury and comfort at this distant point of the world, while the unique location has its own microclimate, guaranteeing warm, sunny weather with fresh breezes for most of the year, and no mosquitoes. It’s the perfect place from which to explore the islands and the ocean that inspired Darwin all those years ago.

Location

The Pikaia Lodge is on Santa Cruz Island in the center of the Galapagos Archipelago, near some of the Galapagos’ most beautiful beaches. In the midst of a private Tortoise Reserve, you’ll just need to take a short stroll to come face to face with a wild giant tortoise. The Lodge’s main building is on a plateau on top of two extinct volcanic craters and the rooms and suites are nestled in the surrounding slopes, offering some spectacular views. Discover the island with knowledgeable guides by foot or hop aboard the 100ft luxury yacht Pikaia I and moor on other islands for excellent hiking, kayaking and snorkeling opportunities.

The island can be reached from Ecuador’s capital, Quito. Flying 40 minutes to Guayaquil to pick up new passengers and on another 40 minutes to Baltra’s eco-airport where you’ll be met by a Pikaia Lodge representative who’ll take you on to the lodge.

Your room

All the rooms and suites of the Pikaia Lodges are modern with a cozy but contemporary feel. With floor to ceiling windows, you’ll always be able to enjoy the incredible views across the national park or the ocean. All the rooms come with a terrace as well, so you can sit out and enjoy the vistas. For the best views, the most space and some extra privacy go for one of the suites, and for an additional indulgence opt for the one with a pool and enjoy an evening dip after a day exploring.

Why we like it

A trip to the Galapagos is undoubtedly a once in a lifetime experience. With such an unusual and beautiful environment it’s important that as little damage as possible is done through tourism. The Pikaia Lodges has worked hard and is completely carbon neutral, environmentally sustainable and holds a social responsibility ensuring work for the local people, so you won’t have to worry about the impact you’re making from your trip, as Pikaia has it covered.
