Head for the hills
Say good bye to Marrakech, jump into your private 4X4, complete with English speaking guide, and head for the hills, or the mountains to be more precise. You will be aiming for the Moroccan Sahara, although there will be some incredible asides on the journey. Drive the famous Tichka Pass to the ancient fortified town of Ait Benaddou, which was designated a UNCESCO World Heritage Site in 1987. The site has some of Morocco’s most celebrated Kasbahs and is well worth a stopover.
Stay the night in Skoura at the beautiful Les Jardins de Skoura. Refreshed, continue via the dramatic Todra Gorge to Morocco’s highest sand dunes. Erg Chebbi towers an awe-inspiring 1000ft above the desert plains below. Enjoy a sunset camel ride and stay the night in a luxury desert camp.
Work up an appetite scaling the mighty dune in the morning, before an afternoon in a 4X4 off-roading on desert routes through the remote mountain range of Jebel Zireg. Spend another night under the stars in a luxurious camp, where the campfire will be lit for your arrival.
The Drâa and Kasbahs
Waving a fond farewell to the Jebel Zireg you will rejoin the remote desert road that connects Tazzarine and the Drâa Valley. The Drâa Valley will be your second UNESCO World Heritage site of the trip. After two nights in a tent, as wonderful as they are, it’s time for some real luxury; spend the night in a beautiful Kasbah surrounded by palm groves on the banks of the river Drâa.
On your last full day visit the Jewish Kasbah of Tamnougalte and the Ouarzazate film studio. Later continue over the mountains and back to Marrakech, where you will spend one last night in the enchanting heart of the city. The next morning a transfer will be waiting to take you back to the airport. If it all seems to fleeting a trip, then aim yourself west and for the crashing waves of the Atlantic.
