Mukul – the Mayan word for secret, is Nicaragua’s newest boutique resort and the definition of eco-luxury – think luscious rainforest, pristine sands and clear blue water. With an impressive selection of villas, ‘bohias’ and the palatial Casona Del Carlos, the resort is the perfect place for family trips, a romantic getaway or a more unusual luxury vacation. Activities range from ash boarding down Nicaragua’s youngest volcano (similar to snowboarding – but with less snow and more volcanic ash) to island excursions, with relaxing nature walks and whale watching to fishing and golf – there is something for everyone at Mukul.
Located on Nicaragua’s Pacific coastline on Manzanillo beach, Mukul is only a 90 minute drive from the airport. Or, if you’d rather an aerial view of the coast, jump on a private helicopter and expect to arrive in no less than half an hour.
The 12 beach villas each boast luxurious bathrooms include separate his ‘n’ hers vanity rooms, monsoon showers and huge tubs, and the villas even have a secret garden with a hidden shower. Each villa has a private swimming pool and an outdoor lounging palapa, along with a private show kitchen and pantry.
The 23 Bohias are built of sustainable Nicaraguan teak and pine, 300ft above Manzanillo beach, nestled like tree houses in the rainforest canopy. The spacious bohias feature luxurious travertine marble bathrooms, a sweeping deck and private plunge pool, and of course incredible ocean views.
Or, if you’re feeling really indulgent, the palatial Casona Del Carlos is the Pella family’s private beach residence and may be booked by resort guests when the family are not there. The house features a 20,000 square foot indoor outdoor living area complete with an 80ft high Palapa ceiling, six bedroom suites and a large private swimming pool – ultimate luxury.
Why we like it
We love the resort’s impressive spa – the healing hut and crystal temple are just two of the six spa spots at Mukul. Luxury aside, the resort is in one of Nicaragua’s prime locations, situated in a perfect blend of ocean meets jungle. There is a great selection of adventures and excursions to explore Nicaragua’s Pacific coast and get the adrenaline pumping, or of course you can just kick back, relax and enjoy your stunning surroundings.
