Venture off the beaten track and into the village of Reine, where you’ll be about as far into the wilds of Lofoten as you can get. In this beautiful village on the island of Moskenesøya, your distinctive Rorbu (traditional renovated fishing cabin) awaits. Once you get past the jaw-dropping scenery, head on out and get to know an area steeped in fascinating history and rich in wildlife.
Aptly recognised as the most “beautiful place in the world,” Reine is just over an hour from Leknes Regional Airport and is the perfect place to feel the immensity of the Lofoten landscapes. There’s no better way to get to know these world-famous fjords that lie right off your doorstep than by picking up a paddle and kayaking amongst them. Back on dry land, get your heart rate pumping on a hike up Reinebringen Mountain for spectacular views of the Reinefjorden and the Lofoten Wall. The higher you go, the better they get.
This quaint fisherman’s cabin offers 7 comfortable beds, making it perfect for families and friends alike. It’s the perfect spot to retreat to after an adventure-packed day as you unwind in a traditional atmosphere that still boasts all the modern comforts. Time your visit right and you could be treated to the ultimate light show, the Northern Lights. 100km above the Arctic Circle and with a private terrace right on the pier, you’ve got front row seats for the greatest natural spectacle on earth.
Why we like it
Reine could easily be our favorite location in the Lofoten Islands. Not only does it showcase picture-perfect backdrops, but it evokes a sense of home that makes it that much harder to leave. A picturesque cabin on the pier side, with a bright red exterior that’ll entice you in, that is even more welcoming on the inside? We wouldn’t be rushing home, that’s for sure.
