Sugar Beach, St Lucia

Welcome to tropical paradise. This Caribbean jewel built on the foundations of an 18th century sugar mill is a haven of soaring palms, rainforest-clad mountains and, of course, sugary-white sands. Get ready for some serious pampering—with a personalized butler service and a world class spa, Sugar Beach is one of our most indulgent retreats this side of, well, anywhere.

Location

Just 27 miles long and 14 miles wide, the glamorous mailage-stamp isle of St Lucia is one of the finest in the Caribbean. Nestled on the scenic west coast and cradled by the Caribbean Sea, Sugar Beach is in the perfect position to enjoy the island’s magnificent sunsets and spectacular ocean views in delicious seclusion.  Deep within the World Heritage-listed Pitons and ringed with volcanic springs and cocoa plantations, it is blessed with almost a kilometer of powder soft beach for you to soak up the sun and offers excellent diving in the azure waters.

Your room

Elegant plantation-style architecture gives a nod to the resort’s sugar mill past, the ruins of which can still be found hidden beneath the shade of mango and banana trees that dot the expansive grounds.  Choose from luxury sugar mill rooms, villas or bungalows, each gleaming with white-washed walls and hardwood floors. Every room comes complete with lavish furnishings such as claw-foot baths and sumptuous four-mailer beds draped in Egyptian cotton. With spectacular views of the Pitons and endless Caribbean Sea from every window you’ll be spoilt for choice, but for complete privacy the bungalows offers an idyllic hideaway just steps from the beach and include their own Jacuzzi.

Why we like it

The spectacular beauty of Sugar Beach really has to be seen to be believed but, scenery aside, the crowning feature has to be the Rainforest Spa. A cluster of tree house treatments rooms that cling to the sides of the Pitons, this maze of bamboo is a magical experience in its own right and well worth the long-haul flight. With Honey and Chocolate Body polishes, the rituals here sound good enough to eat. Get the royal treatment with a signature bamboo or hot lava shell massage before heading to the earthen Amerindian ‘temascal’ steam dome for some serious herbal rejuvenation. This is nothing short of Caribbean bliss.
