Botswana
Machaba Camp, Okavango Delta
Taking its name from the Setswana word for the sycamore-fig trees which surround the lodge and draw in indigenous game, Machaba Camp offers a traditional, back-to-nature setting for an unforgettable safari experience. Bordering the Moremi Game Reserve, 10 luxury tents await you here alongside a host of incredible experiences set to immerse you in the nature and wildlife of Botswana. Venture out across sweeping plains, shower out in the bush and dine beneath the stars as you embark on one luxurious safari.
Location
Machaba is in the game-rich Khwai concession in the northeastern Okavango Delta and overlooks the Khwai River. Sitting right next to Moremi Game Reserve, you can spend your days setting out in search of the Big Five as well as one of the largest packs of the endangered African wild dog on the continent. To reach Machaba, it is an easy 30-minute charter flight journey from Maun International Airport.
Your room
At Machaba, your nights will be spent in one of the 10 large luxury tents that overlook the Khwai River and Moremi Game Reserve. Far from basic, floor to ceiling windows allow you to be in the heart of the action as you spot game from the comfort of your bed, whilst plush sofas sit out on the terrace and decorative rugs and design pieces finish off this luxurious setting. The walk back to your tented oasis after dinner is a real highlight as you meander along candlelit pathways that scenically wind between riverine trees.
Why we like it
Machaba may have been built in the classic 1950s style of safari camp – yet it in no way compromises on luxury. A beautiful pool, a library full of books on local wildlife and a spa therapist are all on hand to ensure relaxation is guaranteed. The most impressive thing about Machaba though is the sheer variety of safari experiences it offers. Discover all the wonders of Moremi with morning and evening game drives, year-round mokoro canoe safaris and bush-walking safaris.
