Vumbura Plains, Okavango Delta
Settled within the heart of the Okavango Delta is Vumbura Plains, a luxury camp surrounded by diverse wildlife and one of the only destinations in Africa to offer both wet and dry game-viewing year-round. Two camps link together here to host 14 tented rooms in total, each with a private plunge pool and sala to observe the wildlife passing by. Swap stories at the end of each day by the boma whilst a sumptuous meal is prepared and starlight floods the plains that open out before you.

Deep within the wilderness, yet easily accessed by a 30-minute drive from the local airstrip, Vumbura Plains sits in the Vumbura Concession, an area covering over 30,000 hectares of the Okavango Delta. Where water meets land and hippos and a variety of other species find their home, you’ll truly be in the thick of the action here with it not uncommon to wake up and see these incredible creatures just steps away from your breakfast table. Travel out into the bush by boats and safari jeeps to discover what makes this region of Botswana so unforgettably unique.
YOUR ROOM
Split between a north and south camp, each camp is made up of seven luxurious tents, elevated off the ground on wooden platforms. Each tented suite boasts large, open-plan living spaces with contemporary designs, plush fabrics and traditional thatched roofs. Indoor and outdoor showers allow you to get in touch with nature should you so choose whilst large private verandas and plunge pools create a dreamlike setting in the wilderness to unwind and cool off after exhilarating game drives.
WHY WE LIKE IT
The diversity in wildlife surrounding the camp is without a shadow of a doubt one of the best in Africa. The flooded grasslands surrounding the camp create prime viewing conditions for elephants, wildebeest, Cape buffalo and giraffe. Crocodiles and hippos are regularly spotted in the waterways, whilst African wild dogs, lions, leopards, cheetah and wildcat can often be found nearby. Venture out by safari jeep or boat to see them all – or perhaps take it a step further and experience a birdseye view of this thriving ecosystem by helicopter or hot air balloon.
