Sanctuary Chief’s Camp is immersed in the predator’s capital of Africa, in Botswana’s world renowned Moremi Game Reserve. Named after Chief Moremi himself, this luxurious lodge boasts 10 bush pavilions and one luxury suite, in earthy tones that blend in perfectly with the setting of the camp. This is the perfect spot for those who crave the company of every exotic animal under the sun. Think days spent admiring rare lion prides and watching leopards prowl their natural habitat, followed by a relaxing spa treatment and sundowners on the deck.
The camp is set on Chief’s Island in the Mombo Concession of the Moremi Game Reserve in the Okavango Delta. The island is created by seasonal flood waters, such that the landscape that stretches out around the camp transitions from a dry flood plain home to lots of wildlife, to a tranquil lagoon. Fly from Maun or Kasane to the Camp’s private airstrip from where your Botswana bolt hole is just 40-minutes’ game drive away. The area is famed for having the best predator sightings in Southern Africa, so embark on a full on safari game drive or take to the skies in a private helicopter ride for some awe-inspiring views.
The 10 bush pavilions are nestled in amongst a jackalberry and sausage tree woodland that is typical of the area and the interiors reflect the landscape too. Picture plush wooden four poster beds, reed mats and authentic African artefacts decorating your super spacious room. Each pavilion also boasts a private game viewing deck overlooking the Delta, as well as an outdoor shower and private terrace pool so that you can truly feel at one with nature. The pavilions are some of the most spacious around, but if you’re looking for that bit more space? Opt for the Luxury Suite. Sleeping up to six people and complete with a private boma and personal chef – it’s luxury all the way.
Why we like it?
With its prime location, fantastic food and friendly, knowledgeable guides, it’s easy to see why Sanctuary Chief’s Camp is constantly named by Conde Nast as one of the top spots in Botswana. We love that you can rejuvenate after a big day in the bush with authentic ‘Africology’ spa treatments that are all environmentally friendly. Trust us, the African heated stone massage is not to be missed. Add in cocktails and canapés by the fire pit overlooking the Piajio Plains and we’re sure this lodge will win your heart.
