Kasiiya, Peninsula Papagayo

There is a lightness of being felt at Kasiiya. Time slows, weights lift and the everyday fades. It’s not hard to see why either. At home on a private peninsula, seven luxurious tented suites cling to verdant hillsides and fringe untouched beaches. Dining takes place wherever you fancy – in the trees or on the sand – whilst an outdoor spa and jungle gym soothes the body. As for the moments in between, make the most of the oceanfront location with days here best spent out on the water. Grab a paddle, catch a wave or simply dive in and discover pura vida.

Location

On a 123-acre estate where hilltops fall away to volcanic beaches, Kasiiya offers a private corner of the Peninsula Papagayo. From the main terrace, there are views over two untouched beaches – Laguna and Portuguese – which are all yours to explore. A short swim then takes you to Punta Gorda and one of the peninsula’s best snorkelling spots. Elsewhere, you’ll kayak with views of Santa Rosa National Park and Tenorio Volcano all whilst being just an hour’s drive from Liberia airport.

Your Room

Playing host to just seven tented suites on its 123 acres, Kasiiya offers not only privacy, but sanctuary. Large, free-flowing spaces, the suites welcome the outside in with wraparound private terraces, neutral color schemes accented in amber tones and indoor-outdoor bathrooms. Labelled with names such as Floating Bird, Lazy Turtle and Laughing Whale, there is a sense of fun to be had too. We loved Laughing Whale, remote and perfect for honeymooners where, between August and November, migrating whales can often be spotted from the comfort of the outdoor copper bathtub.

Why we like it

Like other favorite corners of ours in Costa Rica, we love Kasiiya for the way it embraces the nature that surrounds it. Across the estate run a myriad of hiking trails, with a team of expert naturalist guides on hand to accompany you along them should you wish. Magpie jays provide a natural soundtrack to the day whilst spotted eagle rays swim serenely alongside your kayak and the occasional puma makes an appearance in the dry season.

Sustainability

Priding itself as a luxury eco-lodge, Kasiiya is committed to leaving as small a footprint on earth as possible. Constructed out of natural materials, the tents draw on solar energy and encourage you to eschew air-con in favor of the natural flow of jungle air (though air-con does remain available). Elsewhere the property contributes to a number of local community projects and employs a full-time biologist to help further education on conservation.
