Kalesma, Mykonos
Elegant simplicity, thoughtful service and authentic luxury. Kalesma is a tribute to both traditional Mykonian spirit and modern refinement. Tucked away on a peaceful hillside overlooking the Aegean, the whitewashed, low-slung architecture is at once iconic and deeply relaxing. Throughout the hotel, you’ll find pocket after pocket of tranquillity, often accompanied by far-reaching sea views. The 27 suites and villas are so spacious as to create worlds entirely of your own. With each offering a private pool and sweeping terrace, there would be little reason to leave where it not for the cosmopolitan cuisine of Pere Ubu, the sunset ambience of Aloni and the beauty of the island beyond.
Location
Caught between Ornos and Agios Ioannis Bays, Kalesma will take you into the buzz of Mykonos just as easily as it will shelter you from it. No matter whether you are looking for blissful tranquillity or vibrant conviviality, you don’t need to go far to find it with Kalesma just a short 10-minute drive away from the airport.
Your Room
Cascading down the hillside, the one-bedroom suites and villas at Kalesma have been designed to maximize the uninterrupted sea views. To that effect, bedrooms are orientd towards the sunrise, cavernous baths look out over the Aegean and a private terrace and swimming pool spill out further. Decor is distinctly Cycladic with a neutral color scheme of earthen tones and natural materials, whilst furnishing are luxurious and comforting and leave you entirely at ease. We’d quite easily spend all our time on the terrace where, bathed in sunlight, there’s the perfect spot for a relaxed meal with friends or an invigorating private yoga class in the morning.
Children are welcome to share with you, but the two Grand Villas are perfect for those looking for a bit more space. Offering three or four bedrooms (and the option to connect the two), the scale is grander here with a larger pool and sunset views over neighboring Delos.
Why we like it
Translating to mean ‘inviting’, Kalesma has an unshakeable philosophy of hospitality that places emphasis on its sense of familiarity, of creating a place you can truly feel at home. So, whilst the spaces may be cavernous, the welcome remains ever-warm. Nowhere do you feel this more than at the weekly feast at Pere Ubu, where guests are made to feel a part of the Kalesma family. The evening is both a celebration of Mediterranean flavors and Mykonian energy. Gather around the fire pit at Aloni to start, watching as the flames set fire to the night sky, before slipping into this evening of authentic connection.
