Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge, Volcanoes National Park

Lured in by mighty gorillas and captivated by the majestic landscapes, Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge is one of a kind. A blanket of vibrant green foliage lay along the Virungas, a vast stretch of 15,000-feet volcanoes crossing through Rwanda, Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo. Perfectly nestled within this volcanic chain, this humble lodge is the idyllic base for gorilla trekking. From its cozy rooms to the sumptuous dining experiences, grab a sundowner and prepare for an incomparable wilderness adventure.

LOCATION

Nestled on the foothills of the volcanoes within north-western Rwanda, Virunga National Park is home to over half of the world’s mountain gorillas. 2-hour 30-minute drive from the capital city Kigali, the lodge is set in the Parc National des Volcans and only two-minutes away from the park’s headquarters, where your epic gorilla treks begin.

YOUR ROOM

After the days exploring Rwanda’s rainforest, return each evening to your elegant suite or charming stone cottage. Snuggle up by the warmth of the fireplace and watch the world go by from the veranda as the sun descends on this breath-taking land. Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge presents seven stone cottages with terracotta roofs and pristine gardens, as well as two luxurious suites. The designs are inspired by local culture, creating an intimate Rwandan-inspired setting.

WHY WE LIKE IT

Adventure is on the doorstep as you embark on the pursuit of Mountain Gorillas, but besides these beautiful creatures, there’s a myriad of activities to try. From mountain bike trails and birdwatching walks, to searching for Golden Monkeys within the bamboo forest and treks to the deep crater lake high up on Mt. Bisoke. You could even experience the impressive, heart-warming display of drums, foot-stomping song and dance by traditional dancers who regularly perform here.

SUSTAINABILITY

Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge is far more than just a luxury destination, in fact, it’s Rwanda’s first community-owned lodge. By choosing to stay, you will be supporting socio-economic development and conservation initiatives within the areas surrounding the national park to educate, protect the endangered Mountain Gorilla and improve the livelihoods of those that call this land home.
