The bucket-list of family vacations, a safari is an unforgettable introduction to the wild for the whole family. But with so many options – and the fear of how to do it all with children – it’s often tricky to know where to start. Our travel experts have spent years traversing Sub-Saharan Africa in search of the perfect trip for every individual need. When it comes to family, we’ve found one place has it effortlessly covered; South Africa. On this whirlwind eight-night family adventure, we’ll take you through the best family activities as we get you up close and personal to the wildlife that roams the miles of diverse plains on safari and saddle you up on a polo field. Adding in indulgent, family-friendly lodges, you have the perfect family safari adventure.

A Safari in Samara

Flying into Port Elizabeth, you’ll then take to the skies once more on a quick hop to Samara, one of the largest private reserves in the country. In true South African fashion, the diversity of both the landscape and outstanding wildlife here is just mind-blowing. Don’t fret though, you’ll be here for four nights so there’s plenty of time to spot all the wildlife that call Samara home. To kick off your family safari adventure, either head out to the plains on foot to get right up and close to the wildlife that roams the lands, or drive deep into the reserve with one of the skilled rangers. The reserve continuously attempts to reintroduce game into its plans, so keep your eyes peeled for anything from white rhinos to mountain zebras to giraffes and even a cheetah or two if you’re lucky.
