Salt and Sill, Gothenburg

location

Set at the shoreline of the island of Klädesholmen, north of Gothenburg on the western side of Tjörn, the surroundings here are pretty idyllic.  Sitting out on the Bohuslan’s outer archipelago, approximately 1 hour from Gothenburg airport, the location is both a world away from home and yet still easily accessible as part of a long weekend city break.

The interiors here are light and airy with weathered wood features and granite flooring providing a rustic take on modern Scandinavian design. Each room has its own entrance with access to an outdoor seating area to enjoy the sea air. However for an even better view, and a bit of a suntan, head upstairs and relax on the rooftop deck. If soaking in a Jacuzzi on a private roof is more your thing, check into the hotel’s only suite and enjoy the stillness of the ocean in your own private outdoor setting.

why we like it

Being a true Scandinavian hotel there is obviously a sauna, but this is not your typical hotbox. The world’s first floating sauna, this particular part of the hotel had been designed as a miniature replica of the bigger building and rests on a detachable catamaran complete with dining room and upstairs sleeping area. Take the “sauna” for a spin and spend the evening out on the seas tucking into a private dinner a deux in the middle of the archipelago and sleeping under the stars.
