Mexico. A place where it is just as easy to spend a morning amid temples and ancient civilizations as it is an afternoon amid beaches and palm trees. Mexico is a country full of contrasts and complements where you can start the day unlocking the secrets of ancient Mayan civilization and end it with a soothing massage on the beach. On this revitalizing seven-night trip, we’ll have you doing exactly that. Sail out into the Caribbean Sea, climb atop the Great Pyramid at Uxmal, get in touch with nature at Celestun – and see a side of Chichen Itza that few get to see. Intrigued? You should be.

Discover Mexican Culture in Merida

From the grand Zócalo to the intricate Monument of the Homeland and the towering Catedral de San Ildefonso, nowhere does culture quite like Merida. The capital of the Yucatan, this charming city marks the beginning of your Mexican discovery. Whilst here, you’ll stay at the soothing sanctuary that is Chable Resort & Spa. Start off by joining an expert guide on a private tour of the Merida’s historical center which will see you stroll through the narrow streets and across grand plazas, as you get a real sense of the rich colonial history that has shaped Mexico’s past, present and continues to shape its future. Tomorrow, you’ll get a taste of another side of Merida’s culture – its cuisine. Roll up your sleeves as your private Yucatan chef shares with you the generations-old culinary secrets that lie behind traditional dishes such as Cochinita Pibil and Salbutes.

Start Planning

See the Sun Rise over Chichen Itza

It’s an early start tomorrow as you wake up before dawn and head into the archaeological site of Chichen Itza. Mystical at the best of times, the ruins are made all the more magical as you watch the sun slowly creep up over them. With the sun now bearing down overhead, you’ll learn all about ancient Maya cosmology and religion as you visit the Temple of the Warriors and unearth the eerie rituals central to sacrificial drownings that took place at the Sacred Cenote.

A Flight of Flamingos and a Pyramid Climb

Spend the rest of the day recouping in the spa before venturing out on a private tour to Celestun Biosphere Reserve where, by the shores of the large saltwater lagoon, a flock of over 2,000 flamingos blur the horizon into a million shades of pink and natural cenote springs bubble below the lake surface. It’s a magical place for a swim before returning to Chable for a volcanic mud wrap. Tomorrow, we’ve got one final cultural treat for you as we take you on a private tour of the Uxmal & Kabah archaeological sites. Ancient complexes that pay testament to Maya scientific ingenuity, take in the temples and the palaces before climbing atop the Great Pyramid where you’ll be awestruck by the impressive views over the ancient city.

To the Beach

Now well acquainted with ancient Mayan civilization, tomorrow you’ll head four hours east for a relaxing final few days on the beach at Rosewood Mayakoba. Here, you’ll be just steps away from the ocean as you spend your days sailing out into the Caribbean Sea on board a private catamaran, snorkelling and diving through the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef as it dazzles with its marine life of turtles, sharks and tropical fish. But there are plenty more cultural highlights to see if you so wish, the Tulum and Sian Kaán monuments high among them. The first is considered to be one of the most beautiful Mayan sites, whilst the second is a sublime area of natural beauty, home to thousands of species of flora and fauna. Alongside an expert tour guide, you won’t miss a moment of this corner of Mexico’s fascinating history.

Fully revitalized, you’ll return home tomorrow knowing that this corner of exploration may well only be the start of your love affair with Mexico.
