Chongwe River Camp

Nestled on the banks of the Chongwe Channel on land where the elephant population outnumbers that of humans rests the elegant Chongwe River Camp. With eight large canvas suites this charming camp is a perfect spot to watch local game, cuddle up by the campfire and relax in a truly isolated setting. Your local guides can take you out by foot, canoe or jeep to watch the game surrounding you.

The Chongwe River Camp is set on the North banks of the Chongwe Channel which runs between the borders of Zambia and Zimbabwe. After landing at Lusaka International Airport you are whisked into the air by light aircraft one hour east into the plains. Just 20 minutes further downstream through the grasslands of Zambia and you arrive at Chongwe River Camp. Local game includes elephants, buffalo, lions and hippo – an impressive array of beautiful animals in their natural habitat.

Your Room

Your romantic canvass en-suite tent is located on the riverside with an outdoor bathroom, plunge pool to cool off in and private veranda offering spectacular views of the Chongwe Channel. Expect to hear the sounds of the wildlife as you relax by your private campfire and gaze at the gorgeous star lit night sky. Local game can often be spotted as you lay in bed so you’ll be counting elephants instead of sheep here.

Why we like it

The Chongwe River Camp is a secluded camp with exceptional service, immense luxury and incredible activities on offer. It’s for everyone. One day you can get up before dawn and head out with your guides in search of local game as the sun rises over the plains, the next you can relax a bit before canoeing down the Chongwe River spotting hippos beside you and other wildlife grazing on the banks around you.
