How long

12 nights ideal length

Here’s a trip that will make you feel like you’re on top of the world, quite literally, as you leave the Cape behind and head into the Mountains of South Africa. Soak in almighty views of jaw-dropping scenery and expansive plains on this 12-night trip of epic proportions. A whirlwind luxury tour of all that we love about this country; expect scenic wonder, wildlife that roams free – and need we mention the abundance of gourmet cuisine? We didn’t think so.

Wild Mpumalanga

Touch down in Johannesburg and you’ll be transferred to Mpumalanga for two nights to get yourself in sync with the natural surrounds and African spirit as you take in truly astounding rose-coloured sunsets set against the silhouettes of the surrounding hills and listen out for monkeys in the trees above. For the next two days, the area is yours to explore. As the climate is generally cooler, it’s the perfect place to get out and discover the rich culture and geographical diversity of Mpumalanga on horseback, or if you’re feeling energetic take a hike through the forests where you’ll stumble upon waterfalls perfect for a much needed cool down.

Start Planning

God’s window

Today, it’s up and at ’em as you head out on an epic panoramic route. An area known for its heritage and dramatic landscapes, the mountains in South Africa are also home to some adrenaline fused activities. Armed with a camera, you’ll be guided through the winding paths of the Blyde River Canyon Reserve where every turn offers impressive views over sheer edges plummeting 800m down into the riverbed. For the ultimate photo opportunity, make your way to the infamous ‘God’s Window’ where your eyes are met by the vista of a 900m drop down into lush indigenous forest clad ravine set against the stark blue skies.

Kruger Safari

From Mpumalanga, head into the bush for a stay at one of our favorite game lodges – Singita Sweni. After all, it wouldn’t be a quintessential South African jaunt without a little safari time. Spend the next three nights on the banks of the Sweni River, in the midst of lush vegetation and more iconic animals than you could imagine. To catch a glimpse of the wildlife, you won’t even have to leave your terrace, however, getting out on a guided walking tour is the undisputed best way to see the animals. As night falls, enjoy a sundowner on the deck as you settle down to dinner with the call of the wild drifting through the thorn trees.

Wine on the Mountaintop

Continue your journey through South Africa’s wilderness amid the imposing Drakensburg Mountain Range. For the next three nights, you’ll hole up at Cleopatra’s Mountain Farmhouse, a romantic bolt hole and gourmet lover’s paradise where you can get away from the stresses and strains of everyday life. For the ultimate way to view the true splendour of these mountains, take to the skies in a helicopter tour where you’ll hover over wildlife, rolling hills, rivers and then make a dramatic landing on top of the Little Berg for a glass of sparkling wine with Giants Castle in the background. With your feet back firmly on the ground, make your way to the hotel’s restaurant and sample culinary delights showcasing exotic ingredients.

The following day, get out and see the mountains on horseback and marvel at the astounding scenery as you gallop over the landscapes.  For a fascinating insight into the local history, why not take a guided tour of the bushman rock art that dates back over 3000 years too?

On Top of Cape Town

For the final leg of your journey, we’ll whisk you back to Cape Town for a final fandango in style. Staying right in the heart of Camps Bay, you’ll be a stone’s throw from the glamorous bars and beaches where you can lie back and top up your tan.  We’ll let you in on our favorite spots to grab a sundowner or a delicious meal paired with that all known South African tipple. For the best way to see the Cape,  join a private guide and embark on an epic hike up Table Mountain for staggering views. Once you reach the top, we’ll arrange a  picnic lunch so you can enjoy the views with taste to match. And of course, we always save the best bit till last, alongside your guide you’ll get to abseil down the world’s most iconic mountains, just don’t look down…
