Today rise and shine for a hearty breakfast of freshly prepared pastries before you embark on the epic panoramic route. An area known for its heritage and dramatic landscapes, it’s also home to some pretty adrenaline fused activities. Armed with a camera you’ll be guided through the winding paths of the Blyde River Canyon Reserve where every turn offers impressive views over sheer edges dropping 800m into the riverbed. The bush life
From Mpumalanga, head into the bush for a stay at one of our favourite game lodges Chitwa Chitwa, because we all know it wouldn’t be a quintessential South African jaunt without a little safari time. Spend the next three nights on the banks of one of the largest lakes in the Sabi Sand game reserve, in the midst of lush vegetation and more iconic animals than you could imagine. To catch a glimpse of a majestic herd of giraffe you don’t even have to leave your terrace, however we say get out and take a guided walking tour the undisputed best way to see the animals. As night falls enjoy a sundowner on the deck as you settle down to dinner with the call of the wild drifting through the thorn trees.
Continue your journey through South Africa’s wilderness as you catch a flight from Nelspruit up to Durban where you’ll drive yourself up into the imposing Drakensburg Mountain Range. For the next three nights hole up at Cleopatra’s Mountain Farmhouse nestled in the Kwa-Zulu Natal Drakensberg’s. This romantic bolt hole is a gourmet lover’s paradise where you can get away from the stresses and strains of everyday life. For the ultimate way to view the true splendour of these mountains take to the skies in a helicopter tour where you’ll hover over wildlife, rolling hills, rivers and then make a dramatic landing on top of the Little Berg for a glass of sparkling wine with Giants Castle in the background. With your feet back firmly on the ground make your way to the hotel’s restaurant and discover their love for all things food. Sample head chef Richard Poyntons culinary delights where rich sauces are combined with exotic ingredients that are sure to get those taste buds going.
The following day get out and see the mountains on horseback and marvel at the astounding scenery, as the wind rushes through your hair as you gallop over the landscapes. For a fascinating insight in to the local history take a guided tour of the bushman rock art that dates back over 3000 years.
For the final leg of your journey we’ll whisk you back to Cape Town aka The Mother City for a final fandango in style. Staying at the uber sleek Pod hotel you’re right in the heart of Camps Bay, a stone’s throw from the glamorous bars and beaches where you can lie back and top up your tan. We’ll let you in on our favourite spots to grab a sun downer, or a delicious meal paired with that all known South African tipple. We’ll raise our glasses to that.
For the best way to see the cape hail a cable car up Table Mountain for un-paralleled views over the city and the surrounding cape point. Feeling a little more active?
