It is – quite literally – our back yard.
There’s the pace of central London. The heart of things – between the pretty pastel mews of Notting Hill and busy bars of Soho. Always moving, ever changing. Then there’s the woodsmoke scent of the English countryside. Winding roads. Pints in cosy pubs. It makes sense why the poet Robert Frost – a native of San Fransisco – made his way there in 1912, and stayed. “The scent of apples: I am drowsing off”. We don’t blame him. When you come with us to the place so many of the Black Tomato team call home, you’re getting the true insider’s perspective – whether you want to venture out to prehistoric Stonehenge, visit the palaces of Knightsbridge, or hike through the idyllic Cartmel Valley. Try us.
If you can’t see it here then we can still plan it for you.
Things are fine in the ‘land of hope and glory.’ More than fine. From delectable tasting tours of the wild Lake District with famed chef Simon Rogan, to a charming stay at London’s Browns Hotel – one of the country’s most prestigious spots. With Black Tomato, we’ll show you England as we know it; from dramatic Downtown Abbey to easygoing Cornish seaside culture.
It may be a small country, but England packs a big punch when it comes to regality and splendor, making it one of our favourite places to flaunt our knowledge of all things luxury. Tours including one of the world’s greatest cities, beaches that look like they belong in the tropics, and centuries old towns bursting with charm and personality are just a few of the things a tailormade tour of England will introduce you to.
London has a number of well-known and distinctive neighborhoods. Notting Hill is known for its colourful facades and that 1990’s movie, Soho for its extensive history and now for its delicious dining scene, and Shoreditch for its eclectic and youthful feel. Mayfair, however, exudes copious amounts of luxury, and this west-end neighborhood is one of our favorites for just that. After all, Mayfair was the most expensive property in the first version of Monopoly – and not much has changed since.
If London is for high tea and afternoons at Kensington Palace, then a trip to the south of England was made for fresh oysters, surf breaks, and coastal sunsets. Google Cornwall and you’ll see what we mean – bays of bright blue water similar to that of the Carribean, fishing villages that look delightfully untouched, and coastal pathways that deliver dramatic views and a sense of tranquility. Together, an itinerary incorporating both London and Cornwall makes for a well-rounded and exciting introduction to England.
At Black Tomato, we feel diving headfirst into a local cuisine can speak volumes for the culture, heritage, and symbolism of a country. England is no exception. For a country often reduced to fish and chips, we’re eager to show travellers the true magic behind the culinary scene of this vast and diverse country, with the help of critically acclaimed chef Simon Rogan. Traversing through London, Hampshire, and the Lake District, our custom itinerary will see you exploring local markets, indulging in private meals in the countryside, and basking in the Michelin-starred experiences of London.
London
It’s the heart of the matter.
London manages to be both small and vast; where some areas feel like villages, others feel like palaces. With us, you’ll see everything from Buckingham Palace to the stylish districts of Mayfair and Knightsbridge. You’ll sleep in enviable rooms at Browns, and have a personal driver throughout. You’ll board the Bluebird, a 1930s boat, and tour the historic length of the river Thames. We’ll also arrange for you to have a private pod on the London Eye.
The Lake District
Secret valleys, rolling fells.
Poetic hills, sunken valleys, rolling fells, and quaint villages. With our trips to the Lake District – one of the UK’s most astonishing national parks – you’ll spend time in the farms and valleys of Cartmel, learning firsthand about its role in the farm-to-table movement with chef Simon Rogan, sommelier Pierre Brunelli, and with the kitchen at award-winning L’Enclume, one of our favourite British restaurants.
Oxford
The City of Dreaming Spires.
Home to one of the world’s oldest universities, Oxford is a city glowing with history and character. After exploring its historic colleges and riverside walks, we’ll take you to the baroque glory of Blenheim Palace for a deeper look into Oxford’s history. The birthplace of former British Prime Minister Sir Winston Churchill, you’ll spend the day with a local historian uncovering the secrets of a place dating back to 1702.
