Famed for its white sand beaches and turquoise waters, Barbados has forever been a favourite of those seeking an escape to paradise. On a luxury holiday in Barbados, live life in the slow lane or embark on an island adventure. Surf the Soup Bowl, swim with native Hawksbill Turtles, soak up the charming blend of West Indian and colonial traditions – all before retreating to idyllic boltholes and luxury hotels.
Sitting on its Caribbean throne, Barbados remains the undisputed paradise. Allow us to list the obvious bits first: powder white beaches; swaying, coconut laden palms; azure waters (we prefer to call them ‘really, really clear’ waters). But there’s an unseen side to Barbados, which we’re keen to show you – from clapboard shacks serving the real stuff (rum. We’re talking about proper rum) to sections of untrodden beach studded with ancient mahogany trees, the calls of green monkeys, and the best grill bars in this part of the world. We’ve got the best of Barbados.
Detours make for long delays (of course). And Barbados is all about the lo-fi, slow-mo detour. Take your time, and we’ll take you on a private tour of these still surprising islands – with a stay in a tropical cove, the street scene of the island’s capital, Bridgetown, and the best surfing at the Soup Bowl. We can nudge you around these waters in a private catamaran, or introduce you to the island’s best chefs and the amazing things they do with local ingredients. Cou Cou and flying fish will become a new favourite. We’re sure of that.
After an evening in the surf and at the grill bar (or touring the historic distillery at St Nicholas Abbey), you’ll want a suitable luxury hotel in which to rest your head. Its colonial heritage and colourful colloquial architecture set an attractive scene for its luxury hotels and beach-side boutiques.
With its elegant beaches, made darker by the warm waves that crest them, Barbados has always stoked a romantic fire. Fiery sunsets, languid islets fringed by coral reefs and secret cays, and world-glass cuisine, make for a sure-fire post-wedding retreat. That much is without dispute.
