Growing up in Scotland provides two things: an appreciation for wild, mountainous landscapes – and a desire to travel to places a whole lot warmer. This is precisely what led me to live in China and Mexico, and which nudged me toward the deserts of the Atacama and the remote beaches of Fiji. When we travel, we search for something new; but we also – I think – search for a slightly ‘distorted’ image of what we have back home.
Planning journeys for our travelers allows me to tap precisely into this quest – the search for familiarity in unfamiliar places. It’s never been about box-ticking or places you ‘have’ to visit. It’s about places you want to visit, and the unexpected encounters you find there.
As a Travel Expert, my responsibility is getting to know my travelers on a personal level; figuring out what will and won’t work for them on their trip. I enjoy the challenge of pairing their interests and hobbies into the specific region. And this love of challenges extends into my personal life, where I enjoy taking up new sports like squash, football, and running.
'An outrageously unfamiliar place'
A closer look at IndiaRanthambore National Park was once a royal hunting ground. Today, it’s a vast and largely off-grid wildlife reserve. Here, tigers weave their way through dhok tree forests and the crumbling ruins of the 10th-century Ranthambore Fort. Marsh crocodiles and leopards hide away in the grasslands and rivers. I’ll never forget the feeling of being here, in this outrageously unfamiliar place. Not all safaris are the same. Nor should they be.
