Culture and cuisine in the capital

Hop off the plane and be driven to the opulent Capella Taipei, your base for your time in the capital.  Tomorrow, you’ll begin your explorations of the city, with a privately guided tour of the National Palace Museum, Xia Hai City God Temple, Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall, Taipei 101, and the foodie haven that is the famous Raohe Street night market. You’ll also stroll amongst Taiwan’s natural history with a visit to Yehliu Geographic Park, where fossils hide within honeycomb rocks and salty shores.

Your final day in Taipei will see you set off on a cultural journey into the Yilan Mountains. Here, you’ll spend the day in the company of the Atayal Bulau Bulau tribe, one of Taiwan’s most prominent indigenous groups who are making a future for themselves through a pioneering new model for sustainable cultural tourism that protects both tradition and daily life. The day unfolds with conversation, laughter, and hands-on participation. You’ll eat well here too with meals generous and beautifully presented, paired with millet wine distilled from local grain. Between courses, you’ll move through workshops run by tribal members, learning crafts and trades against a backdrop of forested peaks and valleys. By late afternoon, you’ll leave with a fuller understanding of Atayal life and a few new skills – plus a satisfied appetite.

Visit Taiwan’s first national park

The following day, travel to Kenting at the southern tip of Taiwan. After checking in at the peaceful Gloria Manor, journey out to a local pineapple farm. This beloved fruit traces its history in Taiwan back to the early 1900s before going on to become one of the world’s top pineapple exporters. Today, you’ll trace the story back to its source: a working pineapple farm where local farmers will walk you through the harvest cycle, the quirks of cultivation, and the art of turning raw fruit into Taiwan’s beloved pineapple cakes. It’s a hands-on look at the agriculture that shaped an export economy, with plenty of tasting along the way.

Tomorrow, you’ll visit Taiwan’s first National Park, a vast and beautiful space that stretches over mountains and shores. In the company of your own forest ranger, you’ll explore on land and on sea, hearing tales of medicinal plants and indigenous fauna. With three whole days in Kenting, there is plenty of time to explore the wild, and unwind amid the comforts of your hotel. When it’s time to head home, we’ll escort you to Kaohsiung, from where you’ll take the bullet train to Taoyuan and your return flight home.
