It’s a New Year full of new experiences, time to go out and claim them

Our team of experts are constantly exploring the world and bringing back new routes, experiences, local stories and knowledge from the destinations that they visit. Here are some of our favourite new travel experiences that we’ve found over this winter just in time for you to start 2019 with something you’ll never forget.

To find out where to stay, read through our hotel picks for this season.

We know the tendency during these cooler months at the start of the year is to stay inside, sit by a fire and settle into the new year, but we’re writing to make the argument that some of the most exciting outdoor adventures are out there for the taking when you least expect them to be. We’ve pulled together a handful of our best experiences that will take you far away from those winter blues.

Discover Namibia, the local way with the Himba Tribe

From the conveniently just reopened Serra Cafema up in the extreme northwest of Namibia, spend some time in rugged isolation getting to know your only neighbors, the local Himba tribe.

The last nomadic people of Namibia and native to the Kunene Region of the country, you’ll have the chance to spend time with the tribe and learn the techniques of the indigenous peoples, taking home a new learned heritage and skills from the family.

Vineyards

A culinary unearthing through South Australia

In Tasting Notes last year, you saw us craft the perfect route through a destination based off the learnings of leading chefs from around the world. Now, we’re turning to the ingredients themselves and shining a spotlight on South Australian wine. With each immersive journey, you’ll be able to get under the skin of Australia’s culinary hotbeds. Melbourne, Adelaide, Tasmania – we’ve flung open the doors on leading vineyards and teamed up with the matriarch of Australian cuisine, Maggie Beer, to bring you unbridled access to learn more about the passion and cuisine that originates from this area.

Not sure what route to take in South Australia? Our team recently returned with a handpicked selection of new pairings. Four to be exact.

A hidden desert paradise

If you’ve never heard of Wadi Bani Khalid, located in the eastern region of Oman, we suggest it moves to the top of your travel list this year.

A perfect sunshine escape during the cooler winter months, you’ll traverse the terrain of the Hajar Mountains to come upon beautiful landscapes and crystal-clear water pools. Known for the green black turtles that swim on by calling this home, you could be lucky enough to witness thousands of young turtles hatching and making their all-important first dash for the water.
