As an 18-year-old, I travelled to New York on my own; excited to start a job working in a theme park in the middle of nowhere, Massachusetts. I called my new boss (from a payphone using a phone card, because I’m that old) and was told my accommodation wasn’t ready. I wasn’t to start my job for another four days. Until then, I had to book into the less-than-glamorous roadside motel located next to the phone booth. What followed were months of highs and lows that only fueled my desire to see more.
Blissfully getting lost in North America, Australasia, Europe, and Asia followed. I continued to spin the globe. My love for exploration remains. It always will. But I take pleasure now from seeing the world through the eyes of my son. It’s a real privilege.
As the Head of Finance at Black Tomato – a role I’ve had for nearly thirteen years – the variety is what I love most (aside from watching these lovely people pull together the most remarkable of trips, of course). Working in travel, no two days are the same; just like exploring the world.

A closer look at FloridaBringing my family to a country I once called home was a moment I dreamed about for years. The wilds of Everglades National Park – home to some rare and endangered species – is a stop along this beautiful route seemingly built for us. My son loves wildlife, so the chance to see the Florida panther in its natural habitat – of dense forests and marshlands – was unforgettable. Florida is not all about Disney World.
