It goes without saying that I love travel. But travel is also how I found love (forgive the cheesy start). I was on a sabbatical doing my PADI Divemaster qualification in Panama when I met now wife, who was there on vacation. I’m from the UK and she’s from the US, so we thought nothing would ever come of it. Nevertheless, we kept in touch and had a couple of meetups over the next few months in Mexico and New York, before deciding to give things a go long-distance. It wasn’t long before we decided to make the (obvious?) next step of quitting our jobs to become scuba diving instructors in the Dominican Republic.

For our next adventure, we crossed the Atlantic to Mozambique, where we lived in a beach town called Tofo for a few months before backpacking to the country’s north using ‘chappas’ – the local minibuses. The route was a little crazy with no real infrastructure in the country at the time, but we did discover our favourite place on earth: Ilha de Mozambique. The whole island is remote, beautiful and in a bit of a time warp. It was there we got engaged in an old, abandoned fort in the north, beside an idyllic crumbling chapel as the ocean crashed against the walls. And that’s just the start of our story.
