“The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.” – Dr Seuss.

Curling up with a good book has always been my escape – from rainy days, from the everyday, and – once upon a time – from homework and exam revision (sorry, parents). I would lose myself in the pages, traveling to kingdoms and countries that I’d never set foot in – or that existed only in my mind. The power a writer’s words could wield always fascinated me. It was only a matter of time before the narrative changed and I switched from an avid reader to an avid writer.

Now, in my role at Black Tomato, I write to inspire people in the very same way; picturing themselves on their own adventures. Black Tomato’s emphasis on curiosity really resonates with me as when I’m storytelling, I’m always left with the desire to learn (and write) more about an ever-growing list of destinations and travel experiences.

When I’m not traveling, or reading or writing about it, I’ll be watching Italian films and TV shows, sending 20-minute-long voice messages to friends around the globe (yes, I’m one of those people) or kickboxing.

'I loved every second'

A closer look at Iceland

Now, growing up, C. S. Lewis’ ‘The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe’ was a key part of my childhood; I read the book (a tattered, well-worn version that had been passed down to me from my grandmother), I watched the movies (both the Disney and BBC adaptions), and even went so far as Paris to have my photo taken with the White Witch and her right-hand dwarf, Ginarrbrik, at Disneyland. I was seven at the time.

So, naturally, on a research trip to Iceland, I was delighted when we walked up the path to Barnafoss (‘Children’s Waterfall’) and seemed to step into a scene that looked like it had been taken straight out of Narnia. Gushing milk-blue waters made their way past countless icicles and snow-covered rocks in the form of deep rivers and multiple falls. It was breathtaking. And I loved every second of it.
