Unleash your inner sense of adventure as you traverse the breath-taking glacial landscapes of Argentina and Chile’s Patagonia. First, sink your teeth into Buenos Aires, one of the hippest cities on the planet where our team of expert guides will let you in on the best-hidden gems B.A has to offer. Then we’ll whisk you south where you’ll horse-back ride across the landscapes of El Calafate, then trek across the lunar-like landscapes of the icy ridges of South America’s glaciers and explore the hidden depths of the caves, trekking beneath the majestic Torres del Paines and staying at some of our favourite lodges. You’ll get a true sense of wilderness in this unique, luxury adventure.

Wine and dine

Landing in Buenos Aires you’ll have a few days to explore the vibrant city before you head off into the wilds. From the airport, you’ll be transferred to your chic downtown B.A. crash-pad, Legado Mitico. With so much to see in the city, allow our expert guide to introduce you to two of Argentina’s greatest passions; food and wine. Snack on tasty empanadas and drink freshly brewed coffee in fashionable Palermo, or head to one of our favourite spots for a hearty steak dinner; La Cabrera. To really get under the skin of the Buenos Aires food scene, we can arrange a cooking lesson with local chef Ezequiel Gallardo. Head to the fresh food market with the chef to pick up your ingredients, then you’ll learn how to whip up tasty empanadas. Once you’ve tested your skills you’ll be treated to a delicious lunch at Treintasillas, one of the most famous closed door restaurants in Buenos Aires with a wine pairing menu prepared especially for you to wash down the gourmet meal. We’ll drink to that.

Make this itinerary yours

Each and every Black Tomato trip is tailored exactly to who you are and what you want to do So tell us about yourself and we’ll create something that’s entirely you.

Start Planning

Once you’ve got yourself acquainted with the cuisine, now you can explore the main sights of the city. Visit the National Congress or admire the Teatro Colón, one of the most important opera houses in Latin America. Dance lovers can gain access to an authentic Tango show which is regularly frequented by the porteños (the Buenos Aires city folk). Make sure to head to La Boca, the colourful neighbourhood that’s home to the famous Boca Juniors Football team. For a truly authentic city experience, we can also arrange for you to watch a match at the home of Argentinian football.

Time to head South

From B.A you’ll catch a flight down to the remote southern city of El Calafate. A beautiful city in Argentinian Patagonia, your base for the next few nights will be the luxurious foodie hotspot of Eolo Lodge. From here you can set off and explore the icy spires of the Perito Moreno Glacier. Travel by boat across the Rico Arm and don your crampons before you begin your climb across the glacier with your expert guide at your side. Once on the ice, you’ll have a new perspective of this incredible geological feature as you look across to blue lagoons, gaping crevasses and giant sinkholes. Always accompanied by expert guides you can explore this landscape to your heart’s content. Have a unique picnic on the ice before hopping on a boat and zipping back to civilization and the warmth of your room. Later that night, once the adrenaline’s worn off, relax in your beautiful surrounding with a glass of Chilean wine.

Explora Patagonia

From Argentina, it’s time to hop over to Chile, to the iconic Torres del Paine National Park. Your base for the next few nights will be the seriously remote and contemporary Explora Patagonia. Perched overlooking the shores of Lake Pehoe, this hidden lodge with its own equine centre has breathtaking views of the Paine ridge and the iconic granite towers. Saddle up and take to the wilds on horseback riding through the incredible landscapes of ice and sheer granite cliffs. Unique to the lodge guests can gain an insight into the regions legendary gaucho culture from the workers at the stables. After a day of exploring on horseback, you’ll be in need of some rest and relaxation. Luckily a short walk from your room will take you to the Ona Bathhouses, where you can rest your aching muscles with views over the scenic terrain.

Next up it’s time to head deep into the National Park for a trek with the expert guides on hand. Depending on your level of fitness and trekking experience you can choose between the more moderate hikes such as the Glacier Grey trek, where you start by crossing the turquoise waters of Lake Pehoe on board the Explora catamaran. From here, you’ll walk towards the Grey Refuge where you can view the impressive Grey Glacier and the extraordinary extension of the Southern Ice Fields from above. For real hiking enthusiasts, we can arrange for guests to hike to the Base Torres, where you’ll make a steep ascent towards a lookout at the base of the Paine Towers. After a gruelling climb, you’ll make it to the top from where you’ll be able to grasp the magnitude of the mighty granite towers after which the park is named. For the next few days, you can make the most of the wild expanse surrounding the lodge, before heading back to Santiago for your flight home.
