One of the reasons we at Black Tomato love Australia so much (besides the stunning landscapes, enviable coastlines, vibrant culture and creative cities, of course) is, quite simply, the weather. No matter what time of year you go, there’s always a part of the country that’s basking in sunshine. So, there’s no need to wait till the winter to embark on a trip down under. As this itinerary will prove, there’s a lot to be said for flying south during Australia’s winter months (if you can call it winter at all)…
A TREAT FOR THE PALATE
Arriving in Perth, you’ll immediately be transported to Cape Lodge for your stay in a Deluxe Forest Spa Suite. Nestled in Margaret River Wine Country, right on the tip of South Western Australia, Cape Lodge is perfectly located just minutes from the Indian Ocean, surrounded by lush forests and, of course, plenty of vineyards.
Seeing as the Mediterranean climate here makes it ideal for winemaking, we’ve put together a special food and wine tour that will blow your senses away. See, hear, smell, taste and feel your way around the region, discovering for yourself what makes Margaret River so special. Our guide will introduce you to Margaret River’s premium wines, innovative delicacies and even the characters and places that make them. Try your hand at creating your own versions of Margaret River classics or leave it to the experts to serve up the delicious treats while you eat, drink and absorb the enchanting scenery.
For something different, why not also try abseiling and rock climbing, a tour of the local artists’ studios, or even some whale watching? The choice is yours, just be sure to turn the raw beauty of the Margaret River region into your own heady and intoxicating experience.
A WHALE SHARK ENCOUNTER
From Cape Lodge, we’ll transfer you in your own private car to Perth Airport for your flight to Exmouth where, on arrival, you’ll be taken straight to Sal Salis, a bush style camp where you can relax in the most luxurious beach tents on offer. Sal Salis is perfectly located for you to explore the natural wonder that is the Ningaloo Reef. Reaching 20km offshore and stretching over 280 km, the reef is truly an unknown highlight of West Australia’s natural heritage. Spend your day’s snorkelling in the shimmering waters over the quiet reefs and admiring the huge number of tropical inhabitants. And the crowning jewel of the experiences on offer at Ningaloo Reef? Why, diving with whale sharks of course. We’ll arrange this incredible experience for you, and trust us, swimming with these giants – up to 14 metres long – is like nothing else on earth.
From watery depths to vast and epic landscapes, it’s time to fly over to Bamurru Plains where you’ll be staying in a luxurious Safari Bungalow and heading out on an exciting Safari Tour. Yep, that’s right, safari in Australia, who’d have thought it? You’ll see stunning, dramatic landscapes, incredible native Australian wildlife, reptiles and birds. You’ll also get an aerial view of the astounding Kakadu National Park on your way back to Darwin via scenic air transfer. Your Australian adventure doesn’t stop in Darwin, however. One night here and you’re off again on a flight to Cairns to discover more of Australia’s natural beauty and fascinating culture…
Hugging the Daintree River is the sleepy rainforest of Daintree, your next stop and a sure fire gem in Tropical Northern Queensland. Here you’ll be enchanted by overwhelming untouched beauty and a plethora of protected flora, fauna and wildlife. This is one of the world’s oldest surviving rainforests, Australia’s largest single block of tropical rainforest and North Queensland’s unspoken icon. Ultimately, it’s a must see on any trip to Queensland, so we’ll arrange a full day tour of the rainforest, where you’ll be led by an indigenous guide who will provide you with some expert knowledge and add a cultural context to the tour. We will also arrange for you a private dinner at Flames of the Forest, a truly magical experience. The rainforest backdrop, flickering candle light and aboriginal performances all contribute to the mystical atmosphere, oh, and the food’s delicious, too. The perfect end to the perfect trip down under, wouldn’t you agree?
