Here at Black Tomato we’ve reached new heights of unforgettable hotels with Bale Mountain Lodge, an eight bedroom rustic retreat in a cloud forest 2380 metres above sea level. You’ll be surrounded by nothing but the spectacular landscape of one of Ethiopia’s most remote and ecologically diverse national parks allowing you to get away from it all and relax in tranquility. So leave the daily grind behind as you delve into the wilderness of this beautiful country at this exclusive hideaway.
You’ll take the scenic route from Addis Ababa to Bale National Park as you head towards your rural escape. Situated in the heart of this haven of biodiversity you’ll glimpse sightings of a whole host of endemic wildlife as you embark on Ethiopian-style safaris by car or even on horseback. A drive up to the Sanetti Plateau at sunrise is your best chance of seeing the elusive Ethiopian wolf, with the added bonus of being a great spot to watch the sun come up lighting up the valley below.
Made with natural materials, the lodge blends in with the lush surroundings with all the cosy rooms boasting panoramic vistas of the rugged mountains. Inside your room you can curl up with a book by your very own wood burning stove which for us is the perfect end to a day exploring this unique region.
Why we like it
Bale Mountain Lodge is as close to the top of the world as you can get, well almost, and the stunning views you’re treated to will certainly make you feel that way. Add to that the huge variety of birds and animals, some of which you’ll only see here, including the graceful Mountain Nyala and you have the makings of an unforgettable Ethiopian adventure.
