Wind your way through scenic, mountain roads and transport yourself to another world. Schloss Elmau is a beautiful, family-friendly luxury spa hotel, set in the stunning Bavarian Alps outside the winter ski resort Garmisch. Surrounded by luscious green fields and spectacular snow- topped mountains, the scenery is so beautiful it almost doesn’t seem real. Inside the hotel, the décor is a mix of contemporary classic; brightly coloured rugs spread over wooden floor boards and the 162 rooms are all immaculate. When it comes to food, there are ten different restaurants to choose from, all serving delicious healthy food, from Asian fusion to Alpine fondue. We love the Michelin-starred restaurant Luce d’Oro which serves beautifully-presented culinary masterpieces in an intimate and laid-back atmosphere. The Schloss Elmau hotel is the dream location for those looking for a holiday combining relaxation and exercise. Whether it’s hiking, biking, skiing or relaxing in one of the 4 spas, you will be sure to leave your stay feeling refreshed and rejuvenated and with wonderful memories.
Hidden deep in the beautiful Bavarian Alps, Schloss Elmau is located in a stunning valley near the Germany/Austria border, just outside the winter ski resort Garmisch and only 100km south of Munich. Despite its remote location, getting here isn’t as difficult as you might think; just a quick flight to Munich and a 2 hour drive on from there. Another option is to fly into Innsbruck, only 45 minutes away, for a shorter and more scenic drive to the hotel. Trains also leave from Munich or Innsbruck almost every hour to Garmisch or the village of Klais which is only 5km away from Schloss Elmau.
All 162 rooms are simple but elegant and the understated interiors are surpassed by the magical scenery that pours in through every window. Bathrooms are spacious and everything is new, clean and works perfectly. Some rooms even offer a balcony to enjoy a world of complete serenity right from your bedroom.
Why we like it
Schloss Elmau offers a range of sports and activities, depending on the season and the award-winning kids club will keep your children busy all day so you can enjoy some well-deserved adult time. Take part in yoga classes or relax in one of the four spas complete with massage rooms, steam rooms, saunas and a hammam. Many of the pools are outside overlooking the mountains and many different treatments are available for guests. We recommend either being scrubbed and massaged on warm marble slab in the Badehaus Spa or the physio floating massage in the outdoor saltwater pool. A cultural hub as well as a spa retreat, many famous artists, authors and musicians come to stay and perform here so have a look at the culture calendar on the website and time your stay accordingly.
