Our seven-night safari takes you to two of India’s stunning wildlife parks, Bandhavgarh National Park and Kanha National Park, on a quest to spot three of the world’s most incredible species; Bengal tigers, leopards and elephants in their natural habitat.
GET BACK TO NATURE IN KANHA NATIONAL PARK
After a fleeting night’s stay at The Imperial in New Delhi, a quick flight from India’s capital takes you to Jabalpur, where you’ll be met by your private driver and whisked off on a four and a half hour drive through the Madhya Pradesh countryside to one of our favourite jungle boltholes, Taj Banjaar Tola, ready to begin your safari experience. Even if you’ve been on an African safari before, there’s nothing quite like an Indian safari; driving through silent forests in search of leopards and tigers listening out for the peacock alarm calls (a sign that the big cats are close) is an experience like no other. It’s these forests in which Rudyard Kipling based the setting for The Jungle Book, and you’ll soon see why this enchanting jungle inspired such an iconic novel.

After a morning safari in Kanha, a five-hour drive will take you to Bandhavgarh National Park, India’s top place to spot the world’s largest cat, the Bengal Tiger. Being in the heart of the forest doesn’t mean you have to slum it, we’re whisking you off to Samode Safari Lodge for three nights, a luxurious yet authentic retreat in the heart of the wilderness. When you’re not awing at the forest’s abundant wildlife safari style, you’ll be heading off on short walks both during the day and after dark through the jungle, to get up close with Bandhavgarh’s smaller fauna such as snakes, lizards and birds, and embarking on cycling trips through the local village of Mardari, finding out how the locals live so harmoniously with the tigers. After your safari extravaganza, you’ll be transferred back to Jabalpur for your flight back to New Delhi, where you’ll spend your final night at The Imperial before heading home.
