Stok Palace, Ladakh

For an ultimate dose of the royal treatment, look no further than Stok Palace. With six of the extravagant palace rooms now open to guests, you can live like Kings & Queens in this real life palace in the North Indian province of Ladakh. Sitting at the foot of Stok Kangri Peak, surrounded by stunning landscapes, it won’t just be the intricate palace decor that takes your breath away.

Location

The village of Stok is nestled in the midst of the Indus River Valley with impressive mountain views of the Stok Kangri range. Just a 30 minute drive from Leh, the capital of Ladakh, Stok is easily accessed with regular domestic flights from Delhi to Leh. Far removed from urban life, the pristine natural landscapes of Ladakh evoke a feeling of timeless serenity.

Your Room

Each of the six guest rooms at Stok Palace preserves the traditional royal decor of the palace but have also been carefully designed to maximise guest comfort. Grand carvings and vibrant colours in the bedrooms are complemented by modern bathrooms and breathtaking views. In this rural Ladakhi village, don’t expect flat screen TVs and sonos sound systens, instead, let the scenery and the culture do the talking.

Why we like it

Stok Palace is more than just a heritage hotel, it’s also a museum. The Palace was first opened to the public in the 1980s by the Dalai Lama, and since then has seen visitors from all over the world. Head to the museum to discover more about your gracious hosts, the Namgyal dynasty, as well as about Ladakhi culture and heritage. In the evenings, cosy up around the fire in the courtyard before tucking into an exquisite meal fit for a King.
