Ireland & Northern Ireland
Cashel Palace, County Tipperary
Palladian manor house turned five-star hotel, Cashel Palace is the place to stay when visiting Ireland’s beautiful County Tipperary. Having closed its doors in 2014 for a major restoration project, the property now boasts 42 elegant rooms and suites, a fantastic spa and, of course, its very own Guinness bar. Stepping inside its handsome red brick exterior, it’s evident the personality and history of the property have been kept alive through the careful preservation of original details – from the winding Georgian style staircase to cosy fireplaces and antique furnishings. A Relais & Châteaux property, its dining options are a joy and the hotel takes pride in sourcing fresh ingredients from within the county’s borders.
LOCATION
Cashel Palace is located in the small town of Cashel, just an hour’s drive east from Limerick. Set off from the main high street down a smart driveway, the property maintains an air of serenity while being within walking distance to the town’s shops and restaurants. A main draw to the area is the famed Rock of Cashel, one of Ireland’s most spectacular archaeological sites, and the hotel’s sought-after location boasts iconic views of this medieval hilltop complex from its beautiful back garden. Loch Derg and the Irish National Stud farm are also within reach, making for great day trips.
YOUR ROOM
Cashel Palace’s 42 rooms and suites are exquisitely stylish. Split between the historic main house, new style Garden Wing and Avenue Accommodation (which includes a Gate Lodge and restored School House), some are traditional in style and others contemporary – all tastefully furnished in soft tones of cream, pink and green. When it comes to views, most rooms overlook the Rock of Cashel’s Gothic cathedral or the hotel’s own stunning gardens – complete with manicured lawns, wild flowers, and a Hop Garden which celebrates the properties history with the Guinness Family. For an added sense of grandeur, we’d recommend booking into one of the property’s nine luxurious suites.
WHY WE LIKE IT
Cashel Palace’s storied past began when it was home to the Church of Ireland’s Archbishop, before transitioning into a renowned country house hotel – hosting the likes of Jackie Kennedy, Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton. In contrast to its history, the property’s new and contemporary spa provides a wonderful space to unwind, complete with an expansive indoor pool and jacuzzi – all against a backdrop of beautiful garden views.
