Jakes is more of a community than a resort. There’s an eclectic selection of villas, each with different architecture, decor and stories. From afar you can see the blue washed villa of Octopussy, its sun-dappled day bed on the roof terrace highlighted by the drapes gently swaying in the breeze. Below, a queen size bed with patchwork quilt awaits, with a headboard doused in fairy lights, and a stain glass windows casting a rainbow. Why we like it
Besides the fact that every room, villa, patio and terrace is a kaleidoscope of colour and artistry, the boutique huts, villas and cottages aren’t the only reason we fell in love with Jakes. It’s also a fantastic place for the foodie. Walls lined with records and the terrace lit by tree lanterns, Jack Sprat restaurant will top your pizza with lobster straight from the sea, and tailor-make your jerk chicken seasoning. It’s a true taste of Jamaica. And it doesn’t stop there, once a month Dool’s Farm host a gathering for a banquet-style feast, where fresh, seasonal dishes are served to long, communal tables.
