Location

The Yucatan Peninsula is rich with magical Mayan ruins and natural wonders and Mérida is at the hub of it all. Just three and a half hours from Cancun, this historic Yucatan capital buzzes with sidewalk cafés, art galleries and restaurants. Casa Lecanda is just two blocks from Paseo Montejo, the city’s main artery, which is lined with shops and sublime colonial architecture. It’s a mere 15 minute drive to Mérida’s International Airport.

Your room

Once home to some of Mérida’s Sisal barons, the Casa Lecanda has been restored to its former glory and there is an air of elegance and grace throughout the hotel. Marble archways make way to vast patios and tropical gardens that hark back to the golden age of Mérida’s past. Choose between a patio, balcony or garden room, each with their original mosaic tile floors and traditional Meridian hammocks. However it’s not all by-gone tradition at the Casa Lecanda—modern comforts have crept in though the form of iPod docking stations, flat screen TV’s and walk-in rain showers (not that we’re complaining).

Why we like it

With only seven rooms you feel more like a favoured guest to the home of a Meridian Baron than in a hotel. At Casa Lecanda you get all of the exclusivity that comes with a boutique hotel as well as a taste of old-world Meridian luxury.
