The Amara Mountain Resort is a romantic and historical hotel on the hills of Kalaw. Built in 1909 as British colonial buildings the resort was elegantly converted into the hotel. Ten rooms spread over two houses and surrounded by a gorgeous park-like splendour lies the Amara Mountain Resort. A traditional British colonial style complimented by a dash of Asian accents set the scene for your intimate country retreat.
From Heho Airport head just 45minutes up the hill and through the countryside, here you will find this historical hotel positioned between the golf courses and greenery of the National Park; Kalaw. Your tranquil resort high on the hill is situated perfectly. Private guides take you through the local hamlets, with trekking and hiking routes to reach further beautiful villages. For the more adventurous folk amongst us there are thrilling mountain bike courses dotted on the hills; or you can relax and play 9 holes of golf on an afternoon.
The ten suites are delicately designed in a spacious setting. Your bed is four-posted wood contrasting with the marble floors and white washed walls with views across the gorgeous gardens of the Amara Mountain Resort. Each suite has a fully functioning fireplace to really give you the sentiment of home comfort.
Why we like it
The setting is idyllic. You’re in a UNESCO national park staying in cosy British colonial buildings in the heart of South-East Asia. There’s an ample amount of activities at hand here, from bird watching and a day in the elephant sanctuary to hiking and mountain biking before putting your feet up in the spa luxury of your hotel.
