Hattvika Lodge, Norway
Modern yet traditional, Hattvika Lodge is the perfect base for an arctic getaway in Norway’s captivating Lofoten Islands. With renovated fishermen cabins, a restaurant serving up “from sea to table” dishes, and a sauna overlooking the bay, you’ll spend your days exploring the snow-coated landscapes before sleeping beneath the midnight sun (or watching the northern lights, depending on the time of year).
LOCATION
Perched between ocean and mountains, Hattvika Lodge is only a 15-minute drive from Leknes Airport. Down by the Norwegian Sea, in the fishing village of Ballstad, you’ll be perfectly placed to explore the fjords, bays, and peaks of the Lofoten Islands.
YOUR ROOM
Whether you choose to stay in one of the lodge’s modern suites or beautifully renovated fisherman cabins (or “rorbu”), you’ll be (very) comfortable. Fitted with heated floors and warm lighting, each of the lodge’s suites and “rorbu” are decorated with traditional wooden panelling, neutral tones, and modern touches. From here, you’ll look out at sweeping views of the Norwegian Sea.
WHY WE LIKE IT
One of the reasons we love Hattvika Lodge is the way it gives an insight into traditional fishing communities in the Lofoten Islands. From the restaurant (or the hot tub), you can watch as the small fishing boats dock at the lodge’s quay to unload the day’s catch. Then, you’ll watch one of the lodge’s chefs cook the fresh seafood right in front of you. After relaxing in your very own cabin that has lodged local fishermen for generations, you’ll take to the waters, exploring the port of Ballstad – and beyond.
SUSTAINABILITY
With electric car chargers, electric hotel transport, and the chance to go e-foiling (“flying” over water via an electric hydrofoil board), sustainability is at the heart of Hattvika Lodge’s operations. There is also a recycling station set up for guests to help manage waste.
