Location
An hour’s drive from Cape Town, Leeu House is right in the heart of the village of Franschhoek, famed for its world-class wine and stunning mountainous backdrop. First on your list of things to do here must, of course, be wine tasting and with vineyards galore all around, you won’t struggle to do that. Later in the evening, take a stroll down the road to the village market where good food is guaranteed and soulful music is played every Saturday.
Your room
The 12 rooms at Leeu House are relaxed but elegant and the cream walls light up the room when the South African sun shines over the mountains. They are individually styled, fitted with sisal carpets, his and hers walk-in dressing rooms and curtains and upholstery in natural linens. With incredible mountains surrounding you, terraces, patios and balconies are all on hand as the perfect spots for taking in the views with a nice glass of wine.
Why we like it
In South Africa’s wine region, you simply can’t pass up the opportunity to do a bit of wine tasting. The Leeu Estates is home to The Wine Studio which offers a truly immersive experience as you sip and swirl in a valley surrounded by vines and mountains. There really isn’t a more picturesque place to do it and the Leeu sommeliers are a deeply knowledgeable lot. If you are more into your craft beers though, Leeu has also collaborated with Cape Brewing Company to create Tuk Tuk Microbrewery. Located in the village, wander on over in the late afternoon sun and sample the wares.
