The Fort Bazaar, Galle

The Fort Bazaar Hotel effortlessly epitomizes everything a chic, boutique hotel should be. Set in the heart and soul of Galle Fort, this freshly renovated 17th century town house with only 18 stylish rooms provides the perfect base for exploring. Dive into the rich culture and history of this UNESCO world heritage site on Sri Lanka’s sublime Southern Coast as you discover a place positively brimming with activity, delights and historical sights.

Location

The Fort Bazaar is located 131 km from the capital of Colombo but can be easily accessed via the Southern Expressway. Alternatively we can arrange an air taxi to fly you into the landing strip at Koggala Lake, just 15km from the hotel. Located on the central Church Street, Fort Bazaar’s buzzy, vibrant atmosphere will encourage you to venture out into the historically charged streets. With atmospherically framed boutiques, colonial churches and heritage buildings, you can wander to your heart’s content and watch locals go about their daily business. At the end of the day you can perch in the courtyard and enjoy a cocktail in the balmy surroundings as the sun sets.

Your room

The 18 Asian and Moroccan inspired rooms all feature elegant and calming interiors with neutral colour schemes and sumptuous four poster beds. Our top tip? Nab one of the Upper Suites which have mesmerising views over the colonial Fort from a rooftop terrace. This charmingly intimate boutique hotel is without doubt the perfect place to retreat to after a day exploring the historic Galle Fort, and checking into the luxurious Z spa for a rejuvenating massage is a must.

Why we like it

We love The Fort Bazaar’s sophisticated feel, where can you experience the fusion of expertly prepared Sri Lankan food and Moorish architectural elegance. We know there is always time for a few more excursions, so while you’re here, why not visit a lowland tea factory for a true taste of Sri Lankan tea? Or, better still, time your visit right and catch some first class cricket at Galle’s iconic test ground.
