Bacara Resort & Spa, Santa Barbara

If there’s one thing that struck us as we explored Bacara Resort & Spa, it was the abundance of space. From its beautiful, high-ceilinged lobby and luxurious open planned bedrooms to its rolling landscaped gardens and curving pathways; this is a resort that allowed us room to breathe. A destination in its own right – sure, you’re close to downtown Santa Barbara as well as the Santa Barbara wine country, but there’s plenty to explore, and plenty of space to get lost in at this stunning hotel, set upon a bluff overlooking the Pacific Ocean.

LOCATION

Bacara Resort & Spa sits upon 78 acres of lush, oceanfront land just 13 miles north of downtown Santa Barbara. With its own two-mile stretch of beach, a hiking trail and tropical gardens to discover; you’ll find your very own slice of paradise at this sun-kissed resort. It’ll no doubt be a few days before you even think about what lies beyond, but when that time comes, allow us to arrange a driver to take you out to the stunning Santa Rita Hills for a day of wine tasting, before taking you downtown to immerse yourself in the vibrancy of State Street and the stunning views from the Santa Barbara pier.

YOUR ROOM

Bacara’s rooms are all beautifully finished and echo the Spanish Colonial style you’ll recognize in resorts architecture. Tiled floors, bright rugs and dark wood furniture all complement each other to provide the perfect oasis; whilst the huge bathtubs and showers add yet another level of luxury to your stay. To make your room even cozier, switch on the gas fireplace to warm you up as the sun sets and gaze out at the ocean or the colors of Bacara’s incredible gardens.

When you’re not off exploring the beach or relaxing on your private terrace, head over to the spa for a rooftop massage, followed by a healthy and delicious lunch at the Spa Café. The atmosphere in this part of the resort and particularly around the adults-only spa pool is one of pure, unadulterated serenity that you’ll find addictive to say the least.

WHY WE LIKE IT

Perhaps the biggest highlight of our stay here was the food, and the setting in which it was served. The Bistro offers sweeping views of the Pacific. The culinary team is led by Executive Chef Vincent Lesage ( a native Parisian no less).Offering gourmet takes on classic dishes, we indulged in everything from messy BBQ ribs to the more elegant ceviche, all the while being warmed by the flickering and ambient light of the fire pits around us. What’s more, the hotel’s newest culinary addition Angel Oak has now opened its doors for business. Here you’ll find a menu that combines classic steakhouse offerings with refined seafood dishes in yet another spectacular setting right on the bluff.
