Hotel Wailea, Maui
Hawaii’s only Relais & Chateaux property, Hotel Wailea is a tranquil oasis tucked away in an exclusive corner of the beautiful island of Maui. Set amid cascading waterfalls and lush tropical gardens and with a strict adults-only policy, it is a place to romance and to indulge as you dine in treetop restaurants, bask in the sun in poolside cabanas and explore the breathtaking natural beauty of the island. Hideaway in one of the 72 beach-chic suites and discover relaxed luxury as you step barefoot onto your private lanai and look out over whales breaching amid the azure waters of the Pacific Ocean by day and take in fiery sunsets and starlit skies by night.
Location
Touch down in an island paradise at Kahului Airport, from where it’s just a quick half-hour drive to the peace and quiet of Hotel Wailea. Perched 300ft above the Ocean below, the hotel may not boast beachfront access, but don’t let that put you off as what that really means is a sense of calm unlike anywhere else on the island. When you do want to hit the beach though, Wailea Beach and its private sun loungers, gourmet picnics and beach service lie just a five-minute shuttle away.
Your Room
Bringing barefoot luxury to Hawaii, Hotel Wailea’s 72 suites are reminiscent of the chic beach huts of Wailea with their coral and limestone walls and white oak floors. Leading out onto private lanais, suites are drenched in sunlight and bathed in the warmth of tropical hues and lookout over spellbinding views, perfect for enjoying from the comfort of the king-sized beds and deep soaking tubs. Offering just three categories of suite, take your pick based on what view you want to wake up to; ocean, garden – or a little bit of both.
Why we like it
Where a Relais & Chateaux hotel leads, an exquisite restaurant is sure to follow – and Hotel Wailea is no exception. Sat out on a terrace lit by flaming torches and star-filled skies, The Restaurant at Hotel Wailea serves up European inspired cuisine infused with the flavours of Hawaii under a motto of ‘grown here, not flown here’. But for a meal with serious wow-factor, who can say no to a secret restaurant hidden high up in the treetops of the island? At The Treehouse, dine on an indulgent seven-course menu served amongst a canopy of mango and avocado trees and raise a toast to a night of romance and a blissful escape.
