Naturally, we want you to see the very best of this fiercely independent destination, so we’ve put together an all-encompassing itinerary to ensure you get right under the skin of one of the most diverse states in America. From Dallas to Austin to a real working cowboy ranch, prepare to be amazed by our handpicked Texas highlights…
So you’ve arrived in Dallas, known the world over for that TV show, where you’ll immerse yourself in arts, culture and incredible cuisine. You’ll be staying at the stylish and centrally located Hotel ZaZa, where you can drop off your bags in your luxury suite on arrival before freshening up to ready yourself for two days of Texan exploration. Only a stone’s throw away from the city’s arts district, head over to the Dallas Museum of Art for a mooch around the innovative exhibits and extensive art collection. You’ll also visit the Nasher Sculpture Center. This urban retreat has 300 sculptures by Raymond and Patsy Nasher which effectively blur the lines between nature and sculptural art.Read more
You’ll no doubt be itching to try the famous Texan cuisine, so we’ll point you in the direction of McKinney Avenue. This slick and trendy street is lined with some of the city’s best bars and restaurants. One of our favourites that lies close to this exciting street is Fearing’s. Having received countless accolades from foodie publications worldwide, we recommend the Rib Eye Steak, grilled over mesquite and served with West Texas “Mop” Sauce, corn bread pudding and asparagus.
Provided you’re not suffering from guzzling too many mojitos the night before, you’ll begin your second day in Dallas with a visit to The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza. Here you’ll gain an interesting insight into the life and legacy of President John F Kennedy as you wander round, browsing the wealth of documents and artefacts surrounding his assassination. After that, it’s time to enjoy an aerial view over this great city as you head to NYLO hotel’s rooftop bar for a few drinks. With mesmerising views over the cityscape and some top class cocktails to hand, you’ll never want to leave.
A Texan Roadtrip
Now it’s time to jump into your classic silver Mustang to begin the drive to Austin, where you’ll be staying for three nights at the W Hotel. Austin is the creative hub of Texas, with a huge array of music venues, boutiques and trendy districts waiting to be explored. 6th Street is your one stop spot for quite literally any food, drink and music lover, but it’s also home to some of Austin’s best art galleries. From the impressive fine art exhibits at Russell Collection to Austin Art Garage – which showcases local artists work – you’re sure to be aesthetically pleased. Go outside the box and visit the Cathedral of Junk, made by ‘yardist’ Vince Hannemann who has laboured over this bizarre spectacle for just over 25 years, simply because he wanted to. We’ll also send you over to the Umlauf Sculpture Garden and Museum, an interesting and beautiful retreat away from the hustle and bustle of the city.
For incredible cuisine and an experience like no other, Rainey Street is the place to be. An infamous area where quaint houses have been transformed into hip drinking holes complete with backyards filled with food trucks and ping pong tables, you’ll enjoy spending a few hours here. A close contender to Rainey Street has to be 6th Street, an infamous landmark strip of bars and music venues; a great place to spend an evening in Austin.
From Austin it’s on to your last stop, Wildcatter Ranch, for two nights of cowboy inspired fun. Basking in 1500 acres of unspoilt lands, Wildcatter Ranch and Resort calls all those in favour of living a Western dream. You can do as much or as little as you want here, from action-packed days out canoeing, shooting or even trying your hand at archery, to simply sitting back and drinking in the landscapes. Come night time head over to the Ranch restaurant where you’ll be served some of the finest steak in Texas along with top quality local wines. The perfect place to discover your inner cowboy, Wildcatter Ranch offers a rare window into the old ways of the land whilst also retaining that all-important element of luxury and comfort. We couldn’t think of a better way for you to round up (excuse the pun) your incredible Texan adventure.
