Aspen: A Winter Family Getaway

Touch town at Denver’s International Airport, and allow yourself to be whisked off into the mountains for the first three nights of your family winter adventure, starting at The Little Nell. It’s one of our ultimate boltholes in the area, nestled at the base of Aspen Mountain with spectacular views across the dramatic landscape – and set right in heart of this picturesque alpine town. It’s the only five star hotel in Aspen to offer ski-in ski-out access (perfect for wannabe independent teens), so you can be up and out on the slopes in no time at all. An itinerary perfect for a family with slightly older children; expect long days on fresh powder and some memorable experiences.

Why not mix up a bit of piste skiing with a tailor-made snow adventure, where you’ll all head out on a snowcat with a private, expert guide. The snowcat will get you out to some of the best untouched territory Aspen has to offer, giving you access to open bowls, virgin snow and unrivalled views over the peaks. Lunch will be provided and you’re not committed to ski all day either; grab some snowshoes and wander amongst the unspoiled environment to soak up the views and crisp alpine air.

When you finally descend the snow-capped peaks, we can’t think of a better way to cool off those muscles than by sitting down to a wine tasting session with three of the world’s 133 Master Sommeliers, right from the comfort of your own hotel at Element 47 in The Little Nell. Spend the rest of your Aspen days honing your skills with private-family lessons on the slopes. We’ll be able to curate the perfect itinerary to suit your individual abilities as well as the skills you’d like to pick up. You never know, you could be an expert of the half-pipe by the time you move on…

After three nights in Aspen, we’ll have you transferred to Snowmass for the last four nights. Here you can soak up a slightly different view of this spectacular ski region. Back out on the slopes, we’ll arrange for you a ski day with two-time world champion Chris Davenport. Considered to be one of the world’s most accomplished skiers, Davenport has skied Everest and was the first person to ski 54 of Colorado’s 14,000 foot peaks, so it’s fair to say you’re in safe hands and your teenagers will be suitably wowed by his impressive tales. Chris will whisk you off on a private guided adventure, challenging you to hone your skills and guaranteeing children ready for bed by the time you descend the mountain.

On another of your days, we’ll have your kids signed up for a day at one of Snowmass’ terrain parks, where they can try their luck on half-pipes, jumps and rails, all under the watchful eye of their private instructor. They’ll love the chance to perfect a skill, and it’ll give you the chance to enjoy some downtime with a spot of yoga at 11,212 ft. The perfect antidote to weary muscles; looking out over such spectacular views as you perfect your downward dog will be a moment you won’t want to forget in a hurry. And once you’re feeling destressed, hit the slopes once more on your own before meeting up with your excited teens for some apres-ski and story swapping after another incredible day in Snowmass.

Our final treat for you and yours is a cooking master class with a local chef, a fun family activity that will give you an insider’s look into Aspen cuisine and tips on how to make that perfect hearty alpine meal. Gourmet food and a recipe to take home – the perfect ingredients (excuse the pun) for a full recovery from a week on the slopes. Trust us, after a week like this one, you won’t want to leave.
