Where to go on Holiday with Toddlers

When planning holidays with toddlers, we always take their specific needs into account – nap times? Favourite foods? Favourite animal? We believe that no destination is out of reach for a family holiday with toddlers, provided the itinerary has been carefully tailored to them, that it suits their routine, and gives everyone a chance to have fun together. Whether that includes lazy beach days, mountain treks with surprise picnics, or places that loom large in your little ones’ imagination (just a few we’ve had before: Madeline’s Paris; Paddington’s London; The Fjords in Frozen), we’ve got it covered. We’re also careful to recommend accommodation that suits your family – whether you need space for a cot, a zero-entry swimming pool, or a smashing kids’ club.

Thailand

For this excursion to Bangkok and beyond, our Travel Experts have got in touch with their inner child – and outer adult – to handpick exclusive experiences that’ll suit all of the family. Wander aromatic food markets in Bangkok, bond with elephants in Chiang Mai, explore jungle waterfalls and sunsets in Phuket, and kayak around the mangrove forests on Phranang Peninsular. With Thailand being such a friendly, safe place to visit with small children, this makes travelling through the country easy and stress-free while staying in welcoming hotels with a range of staff-supervised activities such as learning to cook Pad Thai.

Sri Lanka

This exotic trip to Sri Lanka is the perfect choice for a young family looking to explore the world further – experiencing safaris and rainforests in this jungle-fringed country. Tuck into local cuisine in Galle (don’t worry, you can choose the spice levels), before moving along the coast to Yala National Park, resting your head in one of our firm favorites, Wild Coast Tented Lodge; where the adults stay in a canvas ‘cocoon’ and the kids next door in their very own tented ‘urchin’. From here, the adventure only gets bigger and better as you spot leopards and elephants, before winding up in Cape Weligama for swimming and diving.

New England

Road trips are popular among families with young kids as they can easily nap in between all the excitement. With short stop-offs and driving routes, we can’t think of a better destination for a family road trip than New England. On this thrilling getaway, you’ll spend your days weaving between the museums of Boston, white-powder beaches of Nantucket Island and mountains of Maine, with fun-fuelled experiences along the way. Say goodbye to the dreaded ‘are we there yet’ moans and say hello to the excited ‘where’s next’ remarks, as the kids eagerly wait to board the Shooting Star in Chatham on the search for humpback whales.

Italy

Sun, sea, and temples; this summer-loving itinerary in Siciliy consists of a real mix of entertainment and activities for all the family. Perched on a stunning hillside, Mandranova hotel will be your base for three nights. The kids love diving into the pool here; a renovated stone irrigation tank, sitting amongst the olive groves which give on to breath-taking views of the verdant landscape beyond. Between dips, you and your children can take part in daily cooking classes, whipping up pasta alla Norma and Caponata using fresh home-grown ingredients. After some time in the countryside, you’ll head off to explore the other edges of this triangular island on one of our all-time favourite Italian retreats.

Antigua

From ocean adventures and turtle watching to science experiments by the beach. The wonderful thing about a family holiday to Antigua is that we can make it as relaxed or as action-packed as you and your kids want. Our favourite day here is on the private island of Jumby Bay, one of the most child-friendly resorts in the Caribbean. You and your little ones will make your way down to Pasture Bay Beach to get involved in The Hawksbill Turtle Program, learning all about these little guys from the marine experts. When night falls the kids will play a vital role in ‘turtle watch’, keeping count of the egg hatchings and watching them pop out of the sand and energetically crawl to the ocean.
