With its flamingo filled soda lakes, gilded beaches lapped by gin-clear waters, spectacular safaris, manifold wildlife, miles and miles of open savannah and Africa‘s tallest mountain, Tanzania is an intoxicating land. There is much to discover in this diverse East African nation, make this country your date for an off the beaten track safari holiday.
At a glance
Africa is one of those places that, once you’ve had a taster, will capture your heart and leave you craving more until you satisfy that overpowering hunger for this extraordinary continent. With the highest concentration of predators in the whole of Africa, (and with rivals such as Kenya and Botswana, that is really saying a grand statement), Tanzania is the ultimate safari destination that definitely does not compromise on style.
What to see
The seemingly never-ending plains of the Serengeti will be your back drop as you uncover the opulent landscapes that lie under the vibrant sky and bear witness to the most dramatic animal movement in the world, the Great Migration. Compare characteristics with the human like monkeys; the chimpanzees although not even the perfect sound track will block out the calls of Kilimanjaro where the climb of a lifetime awaits. For that cultural fix though, we love the Arabic and African influences that are intertwined to create an exquisite medley of aromas and experiences on the island of Zanzibar. Get lost in the labyrinth that is Stone Town’s back streets where you can pick up a bargain and converse with the ever smiling locals or, if you are like us and love to sink your teeth into the local lifestyle (and the food, naturally) head to the night food market in Stone Town’s main square. Believe us when we say you won’t have tasted food like this.
Why we love it
Apart from the fact we have a slight obsession with anything African (it is one of those continent’s that is a guaranteed wakeup call from the ordinary and mundane); Tanzania encompasses everything you could want for, traditional charm combined with safari chic and luxury. There’s nothing better than watching the sun set over the dramatic sight of the Ngorongoro crater. Well, other than spotting the infamous leopard counting impalas in a tree, or maybe looking out onto the untouched beaches of Zanzibar. A tailor-made holiday to this African gem means you can experience culture, wildlife, adventure and complete relaxation all in one trip. There’s nothing not to love, apart from the fact that you can’t stay there forever of course.
