Song Saa Private Island, Koh Rong
Imagine a picture perfect beach, exquisite tropical reef and an unspoilt virgin rainforest all set on a couple of little-known islands floating in the Gulf of Thailand. Otherwise known as Song Saa, we think we’re getting close to perfection. Made up of not one but two islands connected only by a footbridge, Song Saa means ‘The Sweethearts’ and for those of you looking for the perfect honeymoon, this is just the place. On the other hand, if you just want to escape the daily grind and hideaway in complete luxury in a spot where your boss is never likely to find you, then Song Saa is the place to go.
Location
Floating in The Gulf of Thailand, just off the coast of Cambodia, Song Saa is a quick hop over from Sihanoukville (easily accessed from Bangkok or Phnom Penh). Once there, this is your quintessential luxury private island; a place that will let you escape the stresses of modern life and immerse yourself in total Asian comfort.
Your room
Wake up and look out onto the ocean as you have an uninterrupted view of the azure water, picturesque beach or lush rainforest. Chic, sophisticated and entirely private, your villa allows you to relax and unwind in the tranquil surroundings and if you fancy a night in, your room can even be turned into your own private cinema complete with popcorn. The theme is rustic chic meets Robinson Crusoe (and yes, should you wish, they will even provide you with your own Man Friday).
Why we like it
We love the diversity of the surroundings, from the whiteness of the beaches to the deep green rainforest to the sparkling azure ocean, this is truly a visual feast. Speaking of which, Song Saa is all about the food, incredible dining options abound, over water, on the beach or in your villa you are sure to find your perfect gastronomic experience. Feeling a little active? The best way to see the islands is to grab a kayak and make your way through the lush mangroves that fringe the surrounding island. Song Saa is island life at its best.
Sustainability
The sustainability efforts the resort has been truly admirable. Song Saa Foundation supports social development with wellbeing projects within local communities, as well as a community-sustained solid waste management centre. It strives to protect our oceans, introducing Cambodia’s first government-recognised marine reserve and helps to protect the land through its 380-hectare private nature reserve outside of Siem Reap.
